Carol Beatty

Carol Beatty

Carol Beatty was Director of the Industrial Relations Centre at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, from 1996 to 2006. She is also an Associate Professor with Queen's School of Business. Since joining Queen's University, she has taught in undergraduate and graduate programs in the Schools of Business, Industrial Relations and Policy Studies.

An acknowledged expert on change management, Dr. Beatty focuses her teaching and research on the areas of human and organizational issues resulting from the implementation of change. She is an instructor on IRC programs including Change Management, Building Smart Teams and Business Strategy.

Dr. Beatty completed a major study of high-performance work teams in several Canadian organizations, and is currently working on research to identify the key success factors in the implementation of change programs. Her writings have appeared in such prestigious journals as the Sloan Management Review, Human Relations, the California Management Review and the Business Quarterly.

Dr. Beatty is also active as a consultant, and has facilitated change efforts in a number of private and public sector organizations. She has spoken to numerous groups in Canada and abroad, including provincial and federal governments, private industry, human resources associations and universities in both Canada and international venues. She has helped facilitate change efforts and team-based structures at numerous organizations, including Alberta Newsprint Company, Accys, Barbados Light and Power, Bombardier Inc., the Canadian Council on Health Services Accreditation, the Canadian Nurses Association, Ciba Specialty Chemicals, Correctional Services Canada, Dubai Aluminium, the Ontario Association of School Business Officers, the Ontario College Relations Board, and Veterans Affairs Canada. Dr. Beatty is a trained facilitator in Future Search (Weisbord and Janoff) and Whole System Change (Dannemiller Tyson).

In addition, Dr. Beatty has authored four complex multimedia business simulations used in high-level human resources education: Transitions, Panorama at the Crossroads, Change-O-Meter, and Harmon Health. She serves on the selection committee for the prestigious Manning Awards for Canadian innovators and on the Human Resources Advisory Board of the Department of National Defence.

Dr. Beatty holds a PhD, MBA and BA from the University of Western Ontario, and an MA from University of Waterloo.
